Private luxury carMont-Saint-Michel is arguably France's most breathtaking sight — a granite island crowned by a Gothic abbey that rises 170 metres above a vast tidal bay. At high tide the mount becomes completely surrounded by water; at low tide the bay retreats to reveal 15 km of golden sand. The Benedictine monastery at the summit has been a pilgrimage destination for over 1,300 years.
The distance from Paris — 360 km — makes this a genuinely long day excursion. We recommend departing by 7am to arrive at the mount by mid-morning, spend three to four hours exploring, and return in the early evening. Alternatively, we can arrange an overnight stop in a Norman hotel for a more relaxed two-day experience.

The mount, its abbey and the extraordinary tidal bay
The Benedictine abbey — part Romanesque, part Gothic — perches at the very summit. The cloister, refectory and Knight's Hall are among the finest examples of medieval monastic architecture.
Climb through narrow cobblestone streets lined with medieval houses, ramparts and guard towers. The Grande Rue passes artisan shops and ancient chapels on its steep ascent to the abbey.
The Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel has the largest tidal range in continental Europe — up to 15 metres difference between high and low tide. Guided walks across the sands are available.
The legendary inn has been serving its famous omelettes since 1888 — a ritually beaten, wood-fire cooked speciality that has become synonymous with Mont-Saint-Michel.
